Happy Holidays!

Christmas Day, damn, it doesn't seem that long ago that i was here visiting the folks in Essex and gorging myself on delicious food, sipping chilled beers and enjoying the family vibe.. It is so nice to not have to worry about work for the next 2 weeks, get some god bike time down, see my friends in this part of the world, then hurry back to Sheffield to celebrate New Year.

Warren and Hannah are in SA right now, living the dream and enjoying the warm weather and the warmer water (!!) they're not back until the 19th of January, i'll miss you cats!

Right now generally things are ace, it really is nice right now. I'm very happy with things. I am blessed with amazing friends and a great family, and I do feel lucky to have these people around me. I'll never take them for granted. Anyway, the holidays are making me soppy, so i'll get on with it..

Next year, things are shaking up a bit.. I'll be moving to the Big Apple, NYC for a year secondment with work. I'm totally excited about it, and i cannot wait. I'll be working on a project based out of Montreal, a new highway spanning over 2 huge estuaries which will require 2 bridges. I'll be working on those, creating the construction drawings. It sounds like a pretty amazing project and i've never worked on an infrastructure project of this magnitude before, so no doubt it'll be a hectic challenge. But i'm psyched on it.

I'll be living in Manhattan for 2 months then moving out to Brooklyn i think, that is to be arranged, its so flipping expensive though! It'll be mid February before i head out i think, so plenty of time to tie off everything here, have a good old shindig and sort my life out before i go!

It is a huge step, and kind of requires me to arrange things over here as if i were leaving for good. A year is a funny amount of time. I can't keep the plates spinning. So it'll be goodbye to 51JR, my home for almost 4 years now, and a house i totally love, with great people. I'll be leaving behind all my friends, people i care dearly about, and I can't think too long and hard about that. Just know that if you do want to come out to NY, and live it up without forking out for a room, hit me on the hip and i see you right, be-lee.

I'll be back though, that much i am certain about, Sheffield is my home, a place i adore with some of the most amazing people i have ever met. I could never not return. A year will fly by, things will be cooking here, and i'll be busy there, it'll be over in a moment i'm sure.

But the thought of riding my bike over Brooklyn Bridge in the morning, summertime in central park, riding out to long island at the weekend, or upstate for BMX or mountain biking, fills me with such excitement i know it'll be alright. And an opportunity i'd be insane to turn down.

There is a lot to sort in the New Year regarding the visa and immigration things, but i'm blowing up right now!

Anyway, Happy Holidays to my 4/5 readers, keep on the training tip! I plan to ride everyday i'm off, it'll be hard, but i just gotsta!

Dalby for an XC mission on the 29th of December, so hit that!

I'm out, eat, drink and be merry!

I fell running, once

I can’t remember the last time I wrote anything on here, it has been a while, I have been very busy with a load of stuff going on in he background, some of it quite exciting, other parts, not as much. But it has meany my blogging has suffered as a result. Probably not such a bad thing.

I’ve had an awesome weekend and really mixed things up. Yesterday the weather was so awful, so I decided to go fell running, it’s something I have never done before and I kind of improvised through Endcliffe Parks and out to Porter Clough, it meant running up steep, slippy banks, over roots and rocks, through the Clough which was almost waist deep at one point, freezing cold, but gave me such a rush! I was so psyched, I just had my iPod on, screaming Hot Water Music through at me, and I was zoned!

Saturday afternoon I headed to Dave Ives over in Lytham and joined the crew for The Goldcoast Christmas do, which ended up being a very funny night, with lots of banter and piss taking, its good job its water off a ducks back! Ha! Today after the worst drive back I managed to get to the climbing gym and session with Warren, Hannah, Mason and young Speedway DirtBike prodigy Tai Woffinden. We had 2 hours of going at it, and it was a big session with loads of new stuff getting nailed so I was psyched!

No BMX this weekend, or bike time at all, I don’t feel I have to ride it all the time now, which is kind of nice and means I get to do other things, with lots of different people and keep it varied and mixed. Which is, of course the spice of life.
The gym has been going great and hitting new PB’s eRRyday! The climbing is cool, the night rides are intense and mad hard, they leave me feeling battered and bruised, I’m still in my heavy phase, so I’m a big lug to be shifting about the woods of Wharncliffe in the dead of the night! Also I have perfected the art of going over the bars. Oof! Work is okay, pretty busy on the run up to Christmas but it helps the time go fast, and it’ll soon be over for 2008 and time to see the folks and the Fam, and my friends in the South.

It doesn’t feel like Christmas though, does it?

Warren and Hannah are heading to SA for a month in about a week or so, I’ll miss those guys over Christmas, plus training will suck on my own, I don’t think I can motivate myself to do lunges when no one is there to tell me off for slacking! Have an amazing time guys and send me a postcard, if not only to keep in line with English tradition!

Listen to Bon Iver. I can’t get enough.

8 more days in work. Can’t wait til its done. Big things agwarn in the future I’ll keep you hustlers looped in on it!

Everybody Stop Having Fun! We're In Recession!

What's cooking..

It's December already, damn.. The credit crunch is in full affect here in Sheffield, the shops are rammed full, people walking about with masses of bags under their arms, parcels delivered everyday to work filled with expensive goodies.. It's official we're in recession!

I pretty much have the Christmas shopping sorted, just a couple of little odds and sods to get, it's nice to get it sorted early, then chill for the rest of the month, plus its nice to know i can spend all my December pay packet on festive broads, fast cars and bucks fizz. You know I roll large!

It's freezing, literally freezing, i fell over outside JR yesterday morning slipping on black ice, I wasn't look where I was going and was wearing road shoes, (carbon soles with plastic cleats - i.e ice skates) and went down quite hard. I laid there for a moment, made sure everything was intact, which it was, got up and slowly made my way to work. Shit hot start to the day!

The weekend went well, gates and helping do a touch of coaching at Derby on Saturday which was a great deal of fun, a couple of nice dinners out, and a day of trails with UrbanAir/Fox squad and Lauren, which was good fun! As we were heading back to Derby though we received news the container had been bruk into (keeping it street..) and everything had been stolen.. Damn! When we got there, literally everything had gone, including bin bags, bins, fence posts, old horrible tables covered in mud, along with lots of expensive stuff like generators and the gate.. Someone did a proper job!

Fortunately, It turned out the council had discovered the open container and salvaged most of the stuff, and only 15 or so bikes had been taken, a sorry shame, but still better than what we all first thought. I hope these scumbags get what's coming to them. And soon. What is going on down there is so positive, and is keeping the community spirit alive, however, some are so selfish and short sighted that they take without remorse. For the sake of selling a messed up bike for £20, it takes away the opportunity for underprivileged kids to ride at all. I hope they enjoy the junior bikes that'll be near impossible to sell, and i hope they sit in their sheds, taking up all their space and 5 years down the line when they want a new flymo they can't fit it in, as there loads of old bikes in the way.. That'll learn 'em! ;)

That, or syphilis.

So it was a good weekend , followed by an aweosme session at the climbing wall with Hannah and Warren, i was feeling confident and strong and had a great session in there. Typically, Warren and I push eachother, sometimes a little far out of the comfort zone, I think they call it the sharp end... ;) It feels good to tick another problem off the list each visit, it's totally addictive!

Good gym session last night, good gains and new PBs.. My current bench press is up to 75kgs which i'm happy with but i'm aiming to bench my body weight by the new year! Hitting the climbing wall tonight again, I just hope my arms aren't too tired from last nights excesses!

This weekend I have coaching with the midlands talent team hopefuls, then some BMX time for myself followed by Hotchicks and Douchebags party with Will CashMoney Greg and those cats, and XC and climbing on Sunday.. Oh you knows it!!

Thinking of selling my 2007 Intel iMac, OS X Leopard, 1 gb ram, 250 hard drive, Adobe CS3, microsoft office 2008, new flat keyboard, wireless mighty mouse, logitech 2.1 speaker system. Interested? :)
