What a ka-fuffle!

Yo!

Peep the shot, its me and 5 other 19+ main makers picking ourselves off the floor, whats that geezer doing with my bike? I'm like, "where is it?!" haha

Not been a bad few days since Burnham, rode my bike to Bolehills and had an hour session with the clips back on, watched the Supercross Lites racing from the Metrodome with Big W and basically did a million and one jobs on Monday.

There aren't enough hours in the day!

Last night had a mint session at Mansfield got some mint snaps in and busted some full effort laps, so much harder than Burnham for sure! The double header there is going to be intense, and that first turn is gonna be toight like a toiger!

A core session and some S&C work tonight followed by a road ride with Steve Taylor Thurday night, i'm coming for you Marco!

A Soft Spring Breeze?

Not quite! Just back from Burnham national thought i'd slap a quick post up before my hot chocolate and pro sleep..

Was a mint weekend regardless of the gale force arctic winds, sleet, hail and odd bits of rain to keep things interesting, racing was difficult at times, and entirely exhausting, it felt as though your bike had a parachute attached to it down the 1st straight, and then rocket boosters on the 2nd straight!

Racing went well for me and i'm stoked on how things finished up, Saturday 1 2 1 in motos 2 in the semi and 4th in the main, Marco killed it, and cut myself, Scott Waterhouse and Pinnock off, but we weren't far behind the one day specialist, he was on point though for sure!

No Marco in the mix Sunday, meant it was left pretty much wide open.. Making it through the motos okay 2 4 1 and a 7th to 4th in the semi, phew, thought i was out for a minute there! Made the main and was greeted by the wonderful gate 8.. My snap was the best i'd had all weekend and i'd been graced with some pearlers, i pulled from 8 to the inside and was laying in 3rd/4th into the 1st turn a good 2nd straight saw me into turn 2 and on the gas, but preceding me was Scott Waterhouse busting a Tuffy inspired move on race leader Lee Baker, who ate tarmac, followed by 4 more of us! PILE UP!! I got back on my bike, after making sure Tom Palmer hadn't been entirely crushed and rode through to 6th. Scott won it - nice one son!

Tuffy made the elite main and out of the 3 motos finished 4th overall, great rides from him all weekend, no fear!

Lauren did well finishing 2nd day on and 3rd day 2, so money in the bank for her. Steve Taylor my night time road riding buddy railed through for 2nd in 19+ on day 1 and the crash tangled him too and he finished behind me in 7th. On it!

Dave Ives doubled, mint man! Masters need to step up, Dave is fired and inspired!

TJ Baldwin was comedy in the 30-39 cruiser class, shizers! He must pedal twice that of elite and just a little less than Bradley Watts, but he's just ridiculous.

Fun times with the Norwich crew, hanging out in the relentless tent, catching up with a bunch of people and generally feeling the national vibe. Lots of great riding and good moves all over, too many to mention, i'm hyped for the national report!

The only downer for me was that wind, dang!

But it's all gravy, I still have one more day off work! :)

A reet laugh!

Mint session at Bolehills tonight straight from work, horrible ride up there though, i unclipped around a corner which was rubbish, but i got in with no trouble ad back on the gas, maybe its good practise.

One more day at work then it's BMX time. Then John made an overly salty dish for tea, damn him. Still, better than nowt! Thanks homes! Also Big Dave bought my old helmet, result!

Saw this today and it made me laugh out loud, thank you to whoever came up with it!

The National Circus is Coming to Town!

Yes!

Counting down the days until the national and i'm pumped! Been riding as much as i can over the last 10 days or so, sprints, turbo, night road rides with steve Taylor, been a good few days. I'm feeling good for it, and after getting hooked up by my team manager Rich Camm the Urbanair crew is going to be looking legit - believe that!

We got a full 360 kit in black pinstripe and its the bees knees, i also got myself a nice new V3 helmet, check it.. Balling!

So the weekend was alright some digging at Bolehills on Saturday and then a little ride, followed by a good session at Rotherham with Tuffy and Fos, followed by an intense session of sprints with Tuffy himself, who'd have thought it eh?! The poor lad was struggling after, but it was no joke of a set, and full commitment from the lad, hes rocking elite this year and i got high hopes for him, he's so fast right now. Backing you every step of the way bro!

Sunday there was a regional at Bulwell whch probably wasn't the best pre national warm up, it was hardly stacked, even though i had some fun, it has the shadiest gate in the world, you'd be a fool to snap (or rollback - pah!), Tuffy wasn't and still managed to go over it hurting his wrist again and calling it a day. So i stuck around and man did it drag, but it was okay, I managed to win everything motos and final, but as i said, it wasn't that busy.. I was rocking the flats too, for one day only, that gate is mank!

So the clips are back on and in 2 days time i'll be heading down to Burnham to get messy in 19+, what can I say but i'm pumped!

Bring it!

Healing!

Well its been 2 weeks since i did my hand, and i'm pretty stoked at how well the hand and the rest of me has healed up.

A positive attitude will get you everywhere you wanna go!

Just had an awesome sprint session and i'm feeling pretty good on my bike, 3 sets of 4 downhill with no recovery between reps and only a few minutes between the sets! The wind hasn't chilled yet, but my little private sprint straight is pretty well sheltered, so alls good! Wish i had a little stumpy gate up there..

Round one of the Summer (ha!) regionals are this weekend in Bulwell, i shan't be clipped in for that! ha ha. Lets hope for good weather.

Going to watch semi pro tonight, i love Will Ferell and i'm pumped! Let's get sweaty, let's get real sweaty, like a rainforest sweaty!

ciao ciao mon amies!

The Windy City

Man, its been rough round these parts recently! We had some okay weather at the weekend, rideable, but mad winds, making it really difficult to do too much. I ended up hitting gates at Mansfield on Saturday which turned out to be okay, if not a lot of hard work, then headed to Bolehills to get my flow on a bit afterward. I had my clips on for the first time and didn't feel too bad, although was ashamed at my "chopping wood" pedalling action. I have alot of clipped in experience from mountain bikes and my road bike, but i guess from a dead start out the gate its not as easy to make smooth circles, unless i'm on my flats! ;)

Sunday I had a bit of a dig, ride session at the Bolehills again, i do like the place, but we need to move on the changes, it won't happen on its own, but no one seems that bothered! :(

I'll be rocking the clipped in thing for a wee while seeing how it feels, i think i'll use them at Burnham and get a feel for the race scene with them on. Eak.

I have reserved my new bike, its awesome - peep it!

It's a Charge blender high and i should hopefully have it for April. My work have just gotten into that cycle 2 work program, so i had a £1000 limit to buy a bike to ride to work on, i'll carry on with the road bike to and from work, and maybe hit some 4X races on this bad boy! The savings (43%) are too good to turn down! :) I'm stoked! I just wish the shops in the program sold Dialled Bikes, i'd love one of the new holeshots.. Dang.

Anyway, turbo interval session now - i'm pumped!

Sometimes the simplest things..

seem really bloody difficult! I took my own stitches out today and have blagged an extra hour in bed tomorrow morning, which i feel like i need, i feel so flat right now!

I had a good turbo session on Tuesday and it was pretty hard going, but i felt good afterwards, intervals are no joke! I busted a couple of core sessions this week too and planned on a night road ride with Steve Taylor tonight, but my hand is causing me some grief, so bailed on him.

I have a tiny piece of skin coming from the wound and i thought i'd just cut it off but FUCK ME!!! it was like a nerve or something, it literally took everything out of me! I feel sick, and i think i might just go to bed! What the heck is it?!

The clips are on the whip, i hope the weather is good enough to get some track time somewhere and maybe some gates to get a feel for thing, who knows, i may feel better off without them, in which case i'll go back to my flats.

Don't hate the player - hate the game!

J'aime la France, j'aime des piste de BMX!

The 2008 France Roadtrip!

The guilty parties:

Our Paddy
Our Chris
Our Lauren
Our Joey (fresh from making 2 elite women mains in Douai!)
Our Tuffy
Our Fossy
Our Tricker
Our Mike @ Dialled bikes
Our Millsy
Our Stoney
Our Johnny the Pirate
Our Scooby
Our Stevie Williams
Our Tim G
Our Alec
And Our Scott.

A mix of trails riders, park riders, street rats, race heads but all of us riders, united by the amazing mutual bond we call BMX. I was super pumped and ready for an amazing week!

Over the course of the week we stayed at the F1 Montelimar, which was reasonably close to everywhere we wanted to hit, was cheap, clean and offered a breakfast, all of that for 28 euros, you couldn’t grumble. F1 is alright but it ain’t service with a smile, far from it! You either got complete denial of breakfast goods, or a sterling amount of food and beverage with German efficiency, or a slightly easier on the eye, happier and generally friendly service, but she weren’t on top of shit!

Every morning Paddy would rally the troops for a 7am rise, and out the door for 8 to head to the first track.. We hit about 15 or so tracks that I can remember, there were that many over the week, but some of them are so awesome, or the session went off that they stick in your mind and they’ll remain there for a damn good while.

We normally started at a tame track in the morning then worked our way up, but tame in france isn’t Braintree tame, its always pretty gnarly, and always technical, the French have some of the best tracks in the world, and some of the quieter regional tracks make a joke of out national standard tracks, but we’ll not go off on that tangent!

In some ways this was the best trip yet, in others it was my worst, it was the first tme I’d ever gotten bitten, and I got bit pretty bad, taking a fall at Vitrolles in the morning session of Monday I ended up with a mild concussion, a torn up right hand side, some heavy bruising and 8 stitches in my left hand palm. On a straight that wasn’t difficult I got lazy on the final jump into the corner, and nosed into the table landing, swatting me over the bars and into the concrete turn, it was harsh, but I know it could have been a lot worse, thank you to everyone that helped me up, donated me there clothes to stop the bleeding, took me to the hospital, bought me a drink, helped tear my bread and was generally good to me, thanks! It meant that I missed out on 2 days riding, well 1 and a half as I was snapping at Montelimar the Tuesday afternoon – I ain’t scared!!

I was back on the bike for Wednesday morning and feeling alright, just taking the minimum painkillers so I didn’t end up doing myself in more than I had already, I felt okay and was stoked to be back on it and shredding with the others!

Out of all the tracks my favouries were Cornillion, the track that has it all a dreamy second straight a tech 3rd and 4th along with trails which Tuffy nailed a backflip over.. He managed to spread his S&M XLT forks out a little, but it was okay as he rammed them against a tree to get them straight again.. Sheesh.

Other notable tracks were Dardilly (look it up.. Seeeearious! The 3rd straight had a huge steped up double that Tuffy and I managed to get, I tried it twice hooked it up but stoked I had a shot, it was the biggest jump I think I’ve ever hit, and up to it were just 8 rollers to manual through to get your speed on, it was tech but felt so right!

The second straight was insane, look up Damien Godets crash this track was straight up balling, I've never seen anything like it, the locals must SHRED!
We had some awesome floodlit sessions at Carpentras and Chabiel with Our Kenny.. what a leg-end. We were hitting 3-4 tracks a day and if the session went down we'd do a couple of hours at each, Joey has some amazing photos on her Flickr that are just sick, check them out!

This year we hit a bunch of new tracks and some old favourites, it was a laugh a minute. Other favourites were Beynoist, Tarascon and Frontignan.
I loved everyone that came, just a real chilled out vibe even if Paddy did crack the whip it was for a good reason and he helped us get the most out of the trip. Everyone came on leaps and bounds Mike at dialled bikes did great and by the end of his 5 day stint he was jumping some impressive stuff, along with hooking up half of France!

Alec was sending it at every opportunity, you did god brother! Millsy was on point and between the occasional drop crank and dog legger he really upped his level and was looking good, his final session at Frontignan was sweet and he was killing it. Such a funny guy, love you man!

A to the T was doing it for 51JR and wasn't feared, good to have the loudest laugh in BMX on board, a bright spark, and his high spirits got me through my couple of days downtime, thanks man, got my back and I have yours!

Lauren was bringing the beef to the grill and rode really well all week, pushing her limits, she'll be schooling the chicks on the national circus this year. Joey, fresh from her double elite women main making weekend was up in there, busting out some big shit, she never fails to impress!

Steve Williams (38) is on it, if he packs his a game he'll be top 3 masters this year, be-lee that! Tim G was loving the French set ups and was getting his jump on, Adie, you should have seen him! Scooby was sending it and loving it, he impresses me every-time I see him ride, the quietest shredder on board, but he lets his riding do the talking!
Tricker was on the button, and between complaining every 5 minutes, was killing it! Trail boss!

Stoney who I have never met before was amazing and one of the nicest guys i've ever met, a serious trail riders that took the tracks like a duck to water and was sending himself him big. He hated the French supermarket scene though, al that choice was "killing is braincell, man" awesome!
Mooobaay, after over a year of having a messed up knee was back on it and even though having difficulty walking, was tearing it up and being his normal smooth self. One of the funniest, sharpest guys i know and a pleasure to bus with! Paddy and him are the best couple i've ever known. They even share a credit card!

Fossy was his normal chilled out, 30+ shredding bad ass self. Supping the beers after a hard days ride and eating salads, we all said we didn't like this new healthy living Fos, but that was a lie. Another 30+ contender with no fear!

Scott Waterhouse flew out with Mike and was loving the French vibe, it was good to have him in the bus and he seemed to be loving it! He was looking super fast and nailing pro sections for breakfast!

Johnny STD Pirate (heritage from the seas) was futtin' raping the place, like! A comedy metal head with serious skills on a bike, it took him 6 days and advice from Tuffy and me to get his helmet on right, but once he could actually see landings he was shredding double-ard! A reet nice bloke, who between hating listening to Genesis likes to metal it up and rape the place!
Wicked, like.

Finally, Tuffy. Words cannot describe this boy, Profile, sort your shit out and hook him up right. He does more for you then you do for him. He'll go global. The French love him, we love him, anyone that sees him ride cannot fail to be amazed, he kills it, sends it and is a sponsorship dream. You made this trip for me man, like you have the other 3 i've been on with you, an inspiration, and i wish i had what you got! Just see some of the photos/videos to see what i mean, but being there, in person, is even better.

I feel shattered, but it is worth every bit of pain!
Thank you to all the guys on the trip, it'll go down as one of the best yet! Roll on '09!
